Going for Gold!

Lovely prize of pampering treats from Wizard Publicity, Sara's Bar, Chester Fun at the Weekend, Our Pampered Pooch :o)
Today's post is a bit of a mish-mash of weekend events which I thought I would write about seeing as I had such a lovely weekend!

Firstly I had to comment on the Olympics Opening Ceremony, it was simply incredible. I mean I am one of those who does tend to feel a sense of pride when our fine country does something well but I have to say I think the whole event whilst extremely long was simply outstanding. Having Mr Bean as part of Chariots of Fire was pure comedy genius and the James Bond with the Queen section was fantastic. Go Queenie!

I think as a nation we can be thoroughly proud of our welcome to all of the athletes and visitors to London, now let's get behind our GB Gang and hope they win some medals!

I was THRILLED to open up my amazing prize from Wizard Publicity on Friday evening which was literally crammed FULL of pampering goodies! I am most excited to give them a whirl and you may see some reviews of my favourites on here!

On Saturday I visited my friend in Chester for her housewarming and this little bar is the scene of the crime where all of us became a little worse for wear.. whoops! Had such a fun evening and every single time I go to Chester I love it, it's like being on a little holiday!

As a post hangover god send, my older sis invited me, mum and little sis to her place for a BBQ which was lovely - the dog even got some proper chicken and needed a lie down post meal ;o)

Even though the bottom photo is completely unrelated to this weekend I just had to post it as it contains pretty much all of my best girlie friends and I love it! The version that the photographer took is lovely too so may have to purchase a copy I love it so much!

All my best girl pals on one pic :o)

Weekday Wishlist #7

Shellac in Tutti Frutti, Purple Dress from Forever 21 +, Shellac in Tropix, Leopard Heart Shorts from Forever 21+, Shellac in Hotski to Tchotchke, Black Pleated Skirt from River Island.
This week's Wishlist is rather colourful and Shellac heavy... I have had Forever 21 on my mind as there is a newly opened store in the Trafford Centre that I have been most excited about! Their accessories are so nice but incredibly cheap so I have been itching to go to their newest shop!

Forever 21 Trafford Centre

I visited the store last night and whilst it is MASSIVE I was rather miffed that they had opted to not put the plus size range in there. I know who people who are by no means large in the slightest.. go into Forever 21 and struggle with the sizing as it is pretty small to be honest so I was hoping they would have featured all of the collections they do as the 'plus size' collection has some really lovely pieces in there! But anyway rant over..

I am starting to plan for my trip away for my pal's hen do to Majorca in early September and one of the themes is 'Groupie Night'. I think these leopard print shorts are fab.. paired with a band top of some sort, some black flip flops, studded hairband and big hair, I am hoping that this outfit will be appropriately cliched groupie girl looking!

Forever 21 Necklace
The purple dress has such a lovely neckline and would be suitable for work aswell as play! A thin gold belt and gold sandals would set off the purple rather nicely!

This River Island skirt is part of the AW12 collection so I am not sure if it is in shops yet. I am in LOVE with it! I have been HUNTING for a faux leather pleated skirt for AGES and this is just gorgeous! And a potential for the Groupie Outfit!

As for the Shellac obsession.. I am a trained Manicurist and Pedicurist so have really got into nails and having nicely done nails myself. I love the colours that you can get from Shellac and also that it is very hard wearing and easy to apply. I may have to treat myself to one of these colours - the particular favourite is Tropix as it is such a beautiful bright coral colour!

What are you wishing for this week?

Nails Inc Sprinkles Collection

Nails Inc Sprinkles Polish in 'Sweets Way'
As this wonderful Nails Inc polish coordinates rather nicely with my wedding outfit for tomorrow I just had to write a product review of it. This is probably up there on my favourites of the year list nail polish wise as it is really a very unique colour and finish.

I am wearing navy and nude to the wedding and I have french manicured toes so thought I would do something a little different on my finger nails. I first spotted this on Jen from Polishaholic's blog and was pretty much hooked from looking at her gorgeous swatches of the collection.

I think what makes them so unique and appealing to me is that they are a coloured polish with glitter suspended in it rather than having a translucent finish and being more of a top coat. I applied 2 coats for the above photo and I am SO in love with the effect.

'Sprinkles' is a perfect way of describing the effect of this, the colours of the glitter show through the polish really nicely and its lot more subtle than a lot of the other glitters on the market. One tip I did take away from the Polishaholic was to pop a top coat on as it is quite rough when it dries.

They are available in 3 other colour options as way as Sweets Way and I was so torn between which one to get! I am pretty pleased with my choice though :o)

Check out the collection on the Nails Inc Website.

GlamGlow - It's a MIRACLE WORKER!

As you know I attended a Xen-Tan event last week where I was introduced to my new favourite tan! At the event, we were given a presentation on a new product to reach the UK shores called GLAMGLOW*. Keep reading for a discount to purchase your very own pot of amazingness!

What can I say about GLAMGLOW*? Only that I am SUPER IMPRESSED with it and it is literally a wonder product! I'll be honest, considering I like to call myself a beauty blogger, my efforts in the skin care department include face wipes, a bit of moisturiser when I remember to apply it and SPF when I am in the sun. That's it.

I have suffered with adult acne in the past and feel like I have literally tried so many combinations of skincare products over the years so now that my skin has settled down it is very much a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it.. (which I am sure I will live to regret when my skin is the texture of an old boot!) However in the spirit of trying new things and the fact I had this sample at home which was begging to be tested I decided to give it a whirl before my friend's big day at the weekend! It is essentially a mud mask which dries on the skin and after removal gives plumped, rejuvenated and exfoliated skin.

I was a little bit apprehensive as I have tried a clay/mud based mask before (damn you Estee Lauder!!) and was left with a shiny bright red outline of where the mask had been on my face.. not a good look!

But this was much different. You can feel a tingling sensation and it feels really refreshing on your skin. The scent is really clean and fresh and in all I genuinely really enjoyed the experience of giving myself what felt like a very luxurious facial in the comfort of my own home.

Now for the science bit.. these are the ingredients..

Teaoxi™ - Patent Pending formula is GLAMGLOW®’s continuous time-release technology, delivering fresh Super-Squalene, EGCG Super-Antioxidants and Polyphenols directly into the mud from real pieces of Tea Leaf. Super powerful TEAOXI™ is responsible for brightening the complexion, protecting against free radicals, hydrating and balancing the oil levels in the skin.

Volcanic Minerals - Pulverized into Micro Pumice, these ancient rock minerals give multi-level surface exfoliation and stimulate microcirculation, helping to detoxify and awaken the skin, reduce puffiness, under-eye circles and smooth fine lines while softening the skin’s texture to reveal younger looking skin.

French Sea Clay - Dredged off the coast of Southern France and when combined with TEAOXI™ a tingling sensation is created, triggering 12 hours of Collagen Synthesis for a noticeable wrinkle deduced 3-day glow. French Sea Clay absorbs impurities and toxic substances reducing pore size and helping to look younger by reducing the appearance of age.

I have been given an extra special discount code for GLAMGLOW* so please do try it I would highly recommend it!

This code is for one use only per person and is valid until 31st August 2012. Head on over to the GLAMGLOW website and please enter the code BBGLAM20 at the checkout to receive 20% off making it an absolute bargain at 16 shiny pounds!

Here are some more pics from the Xen Tan Event and one of me enjoying GLAMGLOW*!
Post-tan, no makeup!
Here's me, listening intently to another beauty blogger!

Weekday Wishlist #6

Pugs Need Hugs Tee: New Look, Nails Inc Sprinkles Collection, Platform Shoes: New Look, Heart Jumper: Topshop, Berry Ponte Dress: Dorothy Perkins, Geek Tee: Topshop, Nails Inc Sprinkles Polish, Lips Print Dress: ASOS Curve.
This week's wishlist items all seem to come from my favourite high street/online stores; New Look, Dorothy Perkins, Topshop, ASOS and Nails Inc!

Pug Tee: I love this! Those of you who will know me will know how much I adore Pugs.. I want to own one when I get my own place as I just think they are the cutest little pooches ever.. for now I would settle for a T-Shirt... *sigh*

Nails Inc Sprinkles Polishes: I saw these AMAZING polishes swatched by the lovely Jen at Polishaholic and couldn't resist a little purchase of one.. Jen's post shows the full collection - there are 4 colour combos but the 2 above ones are my favourites. I have purchased the bottom one (and can't remember the name for the life of me!) as it will go perfectly with my outfit for my friend's wedding on Saturday. I am wearing navy and nude!

Blue Platform Shoes: I really like these are they aren't too high and this shape of shoe just seems to work for me.. I can't deal with court shoes as they slip off (must have really weirdly shaped feet!) so I tend to go for styles that lace up or have a buckle!

Heart Jumper: I think this is so cute - considering the recent temperature and horrendous rain, I am being drawn to more wintery items! This is perfect for throwing on with leggings.

Berry Ponte Dress: I think I will buy this as it's perfect for work, but also nice for a night out paired with heels and a collar necklace! It is a bargain aswell at only 22 pounds!

Geek Tee: Not really much to say about this other than I like it!

Lips Dress: I might purchase this ready for my friend's hen do in Majorca! Need to start thinking about my 4 day, 3 night capsule wardrobe that needs to fit into 10kg hand luggage!

Congratulations to the Class of 2012!

Yesterday, I attended the Graduation Ceremony of my Pg/Dip Human Resource Management from MMU. So I headed in to Manchester, got gowned and capped up and was finally able to get a half decent graduation photo!

As per my to-do list, I really wanted a replacement for the monstrosity that is my undergrad degree graduation photo. I absolutely hate it! Looking back, I hate my outfit, my makeup, hair, the cap.. pretty much everything about it.

I know it sounds super vain but I just really wanted a nice photo to give to my mum, dad and my nana and grandad so it was pretty much the only reason I bothered with doing the whole graduation thing again!

My mum got me a really cute card and a lovely new necklace which I will have to post a picture of as it is SO NICE! Yayyy thanks Mummy!

The cap actually wasn't as bad this time round, I felt it gave me a severe case of moon face last time I sported one, but I still insisted on not wearing it for my professional photo!

So, for anyone who has graduated this year a massive congrats, you should be so proud of your achievements! Enjoy the whole process and good luck with whatever you decide to do next :o)

5th Best Invention in the last 25 Years!

The image is rather a big giveaway on what exactly the '5th Best Invention in the last 25 Years' is! Fake Tan is the answer!

Tanning has come such a long way in really a very short space of time and I am most dedicated into hunting for the perfect tan for my skin tone. I am naturally quite fair, with pinky tones to the skin and I am very fussy over what colour a tan turns my skin. For example, St Tropez Mousse or the classic tan just does not suit me. It gives me a really muddy brown colour rather than the bronze brown that I would go naturally.

So when an opportunity came up to attend a Xen-Tan event in Manchester (thanks to a #northernbloggersunite campaign spearheaded by Rebecca of Be Beautiful and Lauren of The Beauty Habit in conjunction with Wizard PR) I quite honestly jumped at the chance.

I love the feeling of being tanned and will happily sunbathe on holiday or apply a fake tan product. Whilst I totally appreciate the dangers of sunbeds I mainly don't use them as I have a really weird phobia of them, there are just too many horror stories and I am quite claustrophobic so I stay well clear of them. I had 2 favourites tan wise that I used which were the Garnier Spray Tan in Intense Bronze and also Fake Bake Flawless both which give me a nice colour. Only issue is that I ALWAYS seem to make errors especially on my hands! So that's why I was really keen to go and learn about tans, how best to apply and also the best one for me.

I have never used Xen-Tan* and I am extremely impressed with the product. It gives a really natural colour and it doesn't smell! We were treated to a spray tan at the event and everyone has commented on how well I look and how my tan looks completely natural. I am so happy with the results and I have booked for 2 Xen Tan Spray Tans over the next few weeks for the various weddings and hen-do's I am attending.

I really can't recommend Xen-Tan* highly enough and the event was fantastic. It was really nice to engage with Xen-Tan and the other beauty bloggers and I had such a great time meeting everyone.

Here are a few photos from the event, and also a picture of me! For some reason my body looks super tanned but I did not think my foundation choice through and have a really weirdly pale face in comparison to my body! I can assure you that my face does match my body, I simply made a foundation shade error when putting my face on!

Glam Glastonbury 2013

Marled Multi-Colour Top, Stonewashed Cuffed Denim Shorts, Layered Ombre Effect Beads, Cuffed Light Jacket in Taupe
This post was really as a result of two things. The first being that I am BEYOND excited for when Forever 21 arrives in The Trafford Centre on 21st July, the second is that I have registered my mug shot ready for when Glastonbury Tickets are released!

Now, those of you who know me will know that the first is a given but the second is very out there for me. I am a creature of comfort so anything that involves not being able to shower very easily, do my hair, sleep on the floor or use any form of portaloo is rather contraversial. I would normally point blank refuse to do it and I am still not 100% sure whether I will get to Glastonbury but my sister would like to go for her 30th and I do think that if we get some form of camper van I *might* be ok.

This then obviously got me all excited for festival wear as its not a look I have been able to do yet with my general avoidance of mud etc. However in a dream world where is will be great weather, I think the above is what I would love to wear!

Assuming that pastels haven't dive bombed in popularity next year, the outfit I have picked would be cute and comfy but also quite functional! I love this light multicoloured sweater, I think the use of the mixed colours is quite Missoni style, which I absolutely adore. The coral shorts are a great summery style and complement the colours in the top fabulously!

As a contrast I would also put these ombre lilac beads with the outfit as let's face it, festivals are prime opportunity to break the accessories out like mad and I love how simple these beads are.

I would be being very unrealistic if I didn't at least have some form of jacket on standby for when it gets cold and I am swaying along drunk on cider to whoever is playing at this particular moment.. I love this taupe light jacket as the sleeves can be rolled up, its very versatile and could be rolled up and put in a bag when it gets warmer!

Also just one last thing.. this post is not sponsored, I just really like Forever 21 and saw some lovely things that are very well suited for a festival on their website. Can't wait to go in the shop!

Weekday Wishlist #5

Dorothy Perkins Embellished Collar Dress, Topshop Studded Bag, Forever 21 NYC Top, Forever 21 Embellished Clutch Bag, Knock Knock Stuff 'Seriously?' Post It Notes.
It's that time of week again where I post my wishlist of things that I have spotted and would like to own! I know I normally post these posts on a Wednesday but I attended a Xen Tan Bloggers Event last night which was just fabulous! So fab infact that it will enjoy it's very own dedicated piece on it!

First up we have a black dress from DPs with an embellished collar, I actually discovered this gem last week and snapped it up as a potential graduation ceremony dress. Unfortunately it was a little tighter fitting than I had anticipated so I have repurchased in a size bigger today ready for my grad ceremony on Monday.

This BEAUT of a bag is from Topshop and as soon as I saw it I felt I needed it in my collection. Bags are just my THING and I have an obsession with all bags, I am not a label snob with it either! My collection does have some designer labels in there and I have been very spoilt over the years but I just love a nice bag no matter where it is from! I bought this bag for just over 30 pounds after my student discount and it is lovely and roomy with a shoulder strap too.

I HEART NYC and all things associated so it was a given really that I would massively enjoy the NYC detail on this top from Forever 21 Plus Size. I think the nude and black is really pretty and I think it would look fab paired with skinny jeans and some ballet flats but also with leggings and heels for a night out with big hair and lots of gold jewellery, perhaps also accompanied with the next item on my list..

This gorgeous embellished cross body bag (also from Forever 21) is under 20 pounds and is really a bargain! That same bag if it was purchased from Accessorize would undoubtedly be double the price!

The final item is some post it notes from this company we discovered after my sister bought me the cutest note pad for Christmas which was a paper version of a tweet. Knock Knock Stuff is a US based company but when I contacted them to ask if there were any stockists in the UK they were super helpful and put me in touch with their UK distributors. You can pick up a limited range of their stuff in Liberty Department Store in London, or alternatively you can purchase the majority of their stuff on Amazon for CHEAP. These post it notes are around 3 pounds including delivery which I think it great for such a unique product. I would really urge you to have a look as their stuff make great gifts!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside...

On the plane! Britannia Pier, The Beach, Old School Hotel Phone, Imperial Hotel, Boules Green.
Hey everyone! So this evening I am writing this from the seaside location of Great Yarmouth! I am here for two days for work so flew over this morning (who knew Great Yarmouth was SO difficult to get to?!) arrived at the office about 11am, did some work, checked in my hotel about 5ish and then decided to take myself on a little walk to pass the time.

Seeing as I am all on my lonesome I figured rather than sit in not the most exciting of hotel rooms (sorry Imperial Hotel but it is true!!) I had spotted a pier and sea front not dissimilar to good old Blackpool so decided to take a walk down.. it was actually very sweet!

The weather is lovely and it's actually feeling like a rather nice jaunt out of the office for two days and a lovely change of scenery. Ate dinner on my own in a little diner on the beach and then strolled back to the hotel where I am now Blogging to my heart's content with CSI on in the background!

Whilst it is super relaxing being here.. I have to be honest and admit I am a little bored.. so please comment or tweet me! My Twitter name is @sweetiesal.. obvs! Have a nice evening everyone!

Matalan AW12 Must Haves

Horse Belt, Mock Leather Skirt, Pattered Skater Skirt, Winter Headband
Those of you who follow me on Twitter will have seen that I am MAJORLY impressed with the Matalan AW12 Collection. At the Carat Media Fashion Blogger Event I attended we were given the Look Book and upon closer inspection tonight I have selected my favourite pieces.

I really like skater skirts and have been looking for a mock leather skirt for absolutely ages! Primark did one a while ago that seemed to just keep selling out so I was never able to get my mitts on one! Hoping to hot foot it to my local Matalan to pick this one up though as I love it!

I have also included some of my favourite winter accessories too. As I am sat here having listened to the evening news and the fact that we have severe weather warnings I am sadly just wishing this sorry excuse for a summer away and desperate to get into cosy winter clothes. Matalan has got a really great collection coming and I cannot wait to purchase a few bits and bobs!

As yet I am not sure when this collection will be available in stores, however I shall keep my beady eye out and let you know as soon as I find out! Ok, so maybe like a day after just to make sure I get my hands on my faves first.. :o)

The To-Do List

Button Canvas (Click here to purchase this amazing one by Swanky Maison!), Sunrise, Cake, Pedicure, NYC, Singing, Hen Do Event Planning, Glamping, DENTIST!
Anyone who knows me will know that I am prolific list writer. I am naturally quite forgetful and can be disorganised and since starting working life I know that lists are a GOD SEND for me in organising myself!

So seeing as I write daily lists about the boring stuff, I thought it was about time I write a fun list. A list of all the things I want to do, achieve, aspire to be or do and basically check them off as and when I get it done.

It was actually really interesting compiling this list so I hope you enjoy reading it! It will be situated as a tab at the top of the page as it will hopefully be continually updated!

Check out my list HERE.

All Things Bright & Beautiful (Weekday Wishlist #4)

Missoni for Havaianas Flip Flops, Swimwear365 Pink Bandeau Swim Dress, OPI Nail Polish: In My Back Pocket
Now I don't know about you but I literally dread finding nice new swimwear year on year and I almost always end up in some form of black swimsuit that I attempt to jazz up with accessories, so I am THRILLED to see such a fantastic range of swimwear that caters for all sizes on one really user friendly website.

One of the great things about the website is that if you are truly stuck, Swimwear365 has a 'Shape Calculator' where you can enter your measurements and then get recommendations on pieces that will suit your dimensions. I am probably an apple shape so my preference is swimsuits as I feel much better knowing that my most hated part of my body is hidden away!

I have an upcoming hen do in Magaluf (please don't judge me) in September a week before my best friend's wedding so what has attracted me to this Swimsuit in particular (Pink Hem-Frill Swimdress) is the fact that it is bright and detailed with the frill at the bottom, but that it is strapless!

Our Bridesmaid dresses are one shouldered and as I tend to catch the sun (not in the greatest of ways) I have been desperate to find a nice strapless swimsuit so that I don't have to worry about awkward tan lines that I will have to try and fill in with fake tan nearer the wedding! I love this piece and may have to invest in it before our jaunt away! It is worth remembering if you sign up to Swimwear365's email newsletter you get 10% off your first order! And what I also love is the price! It is a bargainous 27.99.

Now I wouldn't be me if I didn't think about the full look overall so I spotted these Missoni for Havaianas Flip Flops which are a rather expensive 65 pounds but are so lovely and bright! Would also have to paint the nails in this gorgeous bright polish too which is OPI Shade 'In My Back Pocket'. Amazing.

Real Techniques Makeup Brush Review

I was introduced to Real Techniques Brushes after reading an article in a Magazine about them becoming available from Boots Stores and was amazed at how cheap they were! Samantha Chapman is a beauty blogger who eventually brought her own range of brushes out into the industry.

In all honesty I dismissed the quality of the brushes at first as I was dubious that you could get a high quality brush without the rather steep price tag.. and now I would like to publically declare that I was wrong. Yep, that's right I was WRONG!

These brushes are AMAZING. I started off with the stippling brush (the pink brush above) and have never looked back, it makes foundation application an actual dream and without sounding massively big headed, makes your skin look flawless!

I have now invested in the orange kit which is brushes for face. I seem to have amassed rather alot of eye shadow/liner/shading brushes in my collection so have not purchased the purple kit just yet. I do think it is really very reasonable though to be able to buy a full kit of brushes for under £50. Boots sell the brush sets for £21.99 and contain 4/5 brushes in the kits or the single brushes are around £10.

In the face kit I got a buffing powder brush, a contour brush, flat foundation brush and concealer brush. Now I don't know about you but I do seem to end up using brushes for other things apart from what is written on the handle.. the flat foundation brush is a prime example! I don't find they give half as good a finish as the stippling brush so I have been using that one for liquid highlighters and think it works really well!

Have you ever discovered something that you initially dismissed and then had to admit you were completely wrong?
