Twinkly Talons: Bourjois 1 Seconde Nail Enamel

At Christmas I ALWAYS have to have sparkly nails so when this landed in my postbox I was giddy with how delightfully glittery it is!

Called 'raining with the stars' this is a densely packed silver glitter polish which paints opaque after two coats.

Bourjois have styled the polish by using it to create an inverted French Manicure with a dark red tip. It's a bold look that I will definitely have to try over the next few months!

Bourjois have added lip crayons to their product line this Summer and they have gone down very well in the Blogger world! Pigmented yet glossy, the crayons are a great way of wearing a brighter lip without it feeling too in your face.

You can apply it straight on for a deeper colour or run a finger over it to sheer the colour out a little.

I opted for the red shade (Red Island) as it's a colour I have always wanted to try but not yet found the shade for me! I think I may have just found it..

The other shade available is called Plum Russian and is a gorgeous purple plum, not too blue and not too dark.

Bourjois Colour Edition 24H

The nights draw in, and before you know it Autumn turns to Winter and the Christmas/Winter Makeup offerings are in the shops!

Make up looks are often darker and more dramatic in Winter (probably because everything is hidden under layers to fight off the cold!) and the new Christmas Colour Edition 24H Cream to Powder Shadows are beautifully pigmented and designed to create an easy to apply smoky metallic eye.

I was very kindly sent 3 colours to review and I am super impressed with the formula and colour buildability of the shadows so far. You can have a subtle shimmer of colour or build the shadows up for a more intense look. The cream based product then blends into a powder upon contact with the skin meaning that the longevity of the shadow is impressive!

There are 6 shades going to be released and pictured above are; 03 Petale de Glace (a soft glossy pink with pearly grey effects), 02 Or Desir (the most festive shade, a metallic gold with a touch of light bronze), 04 Khaki Cheri (a metallic khaki with golden tones).

The 3 other shades not pictured are; 01 Merveille d'Argent (a silver shadow with a subtle hint of taupe), 05 Prune Nocturne (a brown base illuminated with purple tints), 06 Bleu Tenebreux (a dark blue, almost black with a pearly finish).

They are a really gorgeous product so be sure to keep your eyes out for them in the shops in October!

Carb Free Winter Comforts 4...

It's Sunday night again, dark at 7pm and the winter dishes keep on coming! Tonight I made carb free Cottage Pie!

This one takes 5-10 minutes to prepare and then approximately 20 minutes oven time, but is super easy to rustle up. Also remember that you can add things in and take things out according to your preferences!


Coconut Oil
Lean Steak Mince
Oxo Cube
Garlic Grinder Herb Mix from Tesco
Beef Gravy Granules

Organic Butter

How to make
  1. Boil the broccoli in boiling water until soft.
  2. Heat up the coconut oil. Brown off the mince and cook the vegetables through in a pan. Season, then add hot water and an oxo cube plus a small amount of beef gravy granules.
  3. Once cooked through layer into an oven dish.
  4. Once the broccoli is softened, drain off the water and put back into the pan. Mash the broccoli up and add a knob of butter.
  5. Layer the broccoli on top of the beef mixture in the dish and pop in the oven for 20-30 minutes.

You could also make this with carrot mash or cauliflower mash.

Finding YOUR Motivation

I do apologise if you think I have gone overboard on the weightloss/nutrition/recipes posts over the last couple of weeks. The thing is that I want my blog to be about anything and everything, and what's going on with me at the moment and this is kind of what's on my mind!

A friend of mine put on Facebook this week, 'happy 6 month anniversary' to his new wife (aww) and it got me thinking that it has been 6 whole months since I decided to change my life and start a new and daunting fitness regime and diet. I remember this because I saw the wedding as 'last chance saloon' to eat drink and be merry before cutting out everything nice to eat (ok, drama queen!).

Fast forward 6 months of training with Chris, and I am no longer carrying 3 stones worth of fat around with me from day to day, I feel fitter, healthier, have done things I never would have done earlier this year and I would say am happier all round. Pretty big statements to make!

The whole point of me blogging about this journey was that I knew there would be times when I would think that it's too hard or not happening fast enough, but that's the point. To lose weight in a healthy way where everything shrinks in with you at a proportionate rate, it has to be fairly slow and paired with moving more.

I never opted for any diets that I deem 'quick fix' e.g. shakes/juices/fasting etc as; a) I like food too much, b) we've all heard the horror stories, c) I honestly didn't see the point of compromising life enjoyment for the sake of being thinner and then potentially putting it back on whenever I tried to eat normally again. So this experience, for me, has absolutely revolutionised my life. Whilst I have made alot of changes, I can see how they are for the better. I have looked through my facebook photos tonight and had to smile at some of the photos.

Now I will be honest, I have not really ever been large and unhappy, I was always the girl with the huge personality to match the ahem, slightly 'larger than average' body, and I certainly didn't shy away from going out or having fun. In fact, alot of people since seeing photos I have reposted on my facebook and twitter this week have said 'I don't remember you ever being that big' and the truth is, I knew how big I was and yes there were days that I would watch TV or read magazines and wish that I was remotely close in size to any of my favourite celebrities but I genuinely didn't know how to get there, but in the same breath, I was fairly happy in my own skin.

I tried weightwatchers when I got the first bridesmaid duty request back in January 2012 and it did work for me but very slowly. I lost just over a stone in a year and whilst I don't necessarily dislike the concept I just personally would recommend it as being a kick start to doing something a little more structured. 

I went along to Elite Performance Fitness earlier this year on a bit of a whim with my friend and met with Antony and Chris with a 'yeh I know what's coming' attitude and feeling defensive about what having a personal trainer entails. 

I still stand by the fact that I would not respond positively to being shouted at. I appreciate that some people are motivated by having someone drive them and taking a more assertive approach to directing the exercise, but that is simply not me and quite frankly I think I would end up in a heated argument with a trainer if that is how they spoke to me. But anyhow, what I have said time and time again about Elite, is that it genuinely is like one big family.

I was used to going to the gym, desperately trying to avoid talking to anyone, doing my 30-60 mins exercise and getting the hell out of there. That is a stark difference to the experience I have at the gym now to that I had 6 months ago. I enjoy going. That is itself a huge achievement as let's face it, working out isn't an easy feat! I have also met some genuinely incredible people along the way and made some friends for life out of the process.

This isn't intended to be like a 'groupie page' for my gym but I just really want to stress that no matter what preconceptions you might have about going to a good independent gym and/or getting a personal trainer, you should always go in with an open mind. I am also not intending to use this as a bragging platform for what I have done as I can also appreciate that some of you don't know me personally and really might not care. What I want to achieve by this, is to share my experiences from the perspective of someone who has been big and is continuing on a weightloss transformation. 

I am by no means where I want to be yet, I have 2 dress sizes I want to lose before Christmas and then I will reevaluate where I am at. The vain part of me is thrilled with all the new things I am now able to wear and the sensible part of me is thinking that I will have improved my health ten fold by becoming more active and changing my diet.

One of the main things for me in getting through this has been support. The people who can talk you off a crisps related ledge, or talk you into going to the gym when you can't be bothered. It is such an important part of engaging your brain with achieving that I really would urge people thinking about doing the same to reach out and ask for help. It is much more of a mental battle than I ever anticipated.

If you don't have friends or family in the same boat then twitter is the place for you. I have received SO many nice messages over the past week and I can't tell you how touched I have been to read them, and when people tell me I have inspired them in some way it makes the story and photo sharing all worth it!

The good choices are now becoming more of an actual choice rather than an I should choose this and it does get easier in time. I have found all the beauty and fashion blogging I do is perfect to keep me on the straight and narrow as it is a hobby that keeps me busy, gets me out and about at events and also shows me clothes that I now have a chance at fitting in to!

Carb Free Winter Comforts 3...

This probably doesn't look how it should look but it tasted how it is supposed to!

Last night I made Thai Green Chicken Curry with Cauliflower Rice for my friends! The recipe is one that my friend Antony from Elite Performance Fitness told me about so I can't really take all the credit for it..

Sometimes you want to feel like you are eating a treat meal, and I think this is a dish that is saintly but tastes really nice.

I really used to LOVE rice and could put away alot of it, so when that was one of the things I had to cut out along with bread, pasta and potatoes I thought well what on earth will I eat?!

Changing my diet to exclude those types of carbs has actually been SO much easier than I anticipated, now that I know that there are alot of substitutes you can make.

Cauliflower rice has been one of those substitutes. I don't think I have *quite* perfected the art of making it yet as I need to invest in a grater but this is by far one of the most versatile meal accompaniments I have learnt to include since my diet overhaul.

Anyways.. here is the recipe!


Chicken (or any form of meat/shellfish)
Coconut Milk (Tinned)
Thai Green Curry Paste
Onion (I used a red onion so that's why mine looks a rather odd colour)
Mushrooms (or any veg)

Cauliflower (for the rice)

How to make
  1. Warm up some coconut oil in a pan, add the chicken and vegetables of your choice.
  2. When the chicken is almost cooked through, add the thai green curry paste and stir through for approx a minute. Add the coconut milk and leave to simmer for approximately 10 minutes so the chicken cooks through. Stir occasionally.
  3. In the meantime you can prep your cauliflower rice. There are a number of ways you can make this, the recipe I've seen that seems like it would make it the closest to rice, is to grate the cauliflower when raw and then boil for a minute and drain off the water.
  4. Then spoon onto the plate and add the curry.

I am currently working towards my #dresstoimpress goal in conjunction with my trainer Chris and Wish Want Wear, so I am on the straight and narrow and eating clean.

Carb Free Winter Comforts 2...

I thought it was about time that I posted recipe number 2 of my carbless comforts series! 

I am really trying to eat clean at the moment and in order to do that I have to be a bit more creative in the kitchen to avoid certain types of carbs.

I used to be a bread/pasta/potato fiend, so finding replacements for them has been quite the challenge! I am very pleased to say though that genuinely giving up those types of carbs is actually not as hard as you think it might be.

I saw a picture of carrot chips on instagram and thought I would give them a whirl. I can report back that they were really nice and I will definitely be making them again! Steak and chips is a wintery kind of dish and after my trip to the gym earlier on (feeling the fear about getting in my #adresstoimpress!) I decided to make them!

It is one of the simplest things I have made since going carb free! 

Oil - I used Walnut Oil
Seasoning - I used a garlic grinder from Tesco and rock salt

How to make
  1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
  2. Peel the carrots and chop into chip sized pieces.
  3. Pop the pieces onto a baking tray and drizzle with oil.
  4. Season.
  5. Cook for 25-30 minutes.
As you will have seen in my earlier post, I am attempting to get into my dream dress by Christmas so I have to make myself nutritious and clean meals to aid my weightloss!

I would definitely recommend this as an easy to prepare meal for all of the family :o)

Decided on THE Dress! #adresstoimpress

Over the weekend I ummed and ahhed about what dress to pick for my #adresstoimpress project with Wish Want Wear and I am both pleased and panicked to say I have picked one out!

I have decided to keep my choice a surprise until the big reveal in December so I have 11 weeks to make my dream a reality!

And I bet you are thinking well how are you going to do it?

The truth is, this goal is going to be hard and it scares me a little. Don't get me wrong, I am excited and how I will feel when I get that dress on is going to be amazing, but I can't help but feel slightly dubious that I am setting myself up for a fall.

On Saturday I helped out at the Elite Performance Fitness Female Nutrition and Training Seminar and was able to listen in to all the tips and information given by the trainers from the gym, including my PT, Chris.

Chris discussed goal setting with the audience and how to go about it. One of the points that he made that encouraged me to pick the biggest challenge dress wise, was the fact that a goal *should* scare you a little. It gives you something to aim for and it shouldn't be easy, as it will push you to achieve that bit more than you might have done otherwise.

I could have picked a dress that I thought would be an easier option, but it wouldn't have been the dream dress, so I figured why not go for the best?

In terms of how I am going to get there, there's a couple of things I am going to do to make this happen;
  • Eating Clean: I know it's a simple one to follow but in terms of getting where I want to be, I need to be strict on the diet side of things and commit to not making poor food choices. I will be posting some recipes on here as I try them so keep popping back if you want to see my paleo style attempts! Tonight I will be trying to make carrot chips!
  • Stay Active: I will continue with my weekly PT session, attending 2 circuit classes and also try and do a programme in the gym on my own!
  • The Countdown/Keeping the Dress in mind: I have downloaded a countdown app and also intend to make a visual goal board that I can have up in my room. I will then see it everyday and it will reinforce my objectives! That's the idea anyway..
  • Just do it: Again - simple but effective. I am a big ideas person and often let a bright idea run away with me without thinking the practical through. I need to commit to the changes and just do it, instead of making excuses or giving it a half hearted attempt. No one else can do this for me so the responsibility lies with me to make this happen.

I'm not sure if anyone else is thinking of working towards a Christmas Party Dress type goal, but if so I would love to hear about it and share progress!

Christmas Countdown... new WEIGHTLOSS Goal!

This post was both amazingly fun to write and slightly daunting as it is all about setting a brand new weightloss goal for me to work towards in the run up to Christmas!

As you may remember, earlier this year I commenced a fitness overhaul with the help of my personal trainer Chris at Elite Performance Fitness. Chris has helped me completely change my diet and lose 2-3 dress sizes since March and I want to lose another 2 dress sizes before Christmas. Yikes.

I thought long and hard about what I wanted to focus on and this is the one that appeals to me the most as I could have just said 'lose 2 dress sizes' but I wanted there to be a treat to work towards!

Every girl likes getting glammed up at Christmas and this year I am making it my mission to up the ante and get into a Celebrity Style Designer Dress in December!

Wish Want Wear are helping me achieve this dream of mine by lending me a designer dress and I need your help to select the top three to have in the running before making my final choice in December!

I have picked out an initial 10 (pictured above) and I am having some trouble whittling it down to my favourite three as they are all so beautiful! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below or by sending me a tweet!

Autumn Dressing with New Look

I was recently contacted by New Look to pick out my favourite Day Dresses and style them up for 3 Autumn/Winter daytime looks.
I do love a spot of virtual window shopping, so I happily set about creating my three day time looks..
Look 1 could be dressed up for work, or down for shopping. I have glammed this up slightly for the office with a black and camel blazer and court shoes, but equally this dress could be dressed down with boots and a leather jacket for shopping due to it's versatile colour palette.
Look 2 is this gorgeous green brocade style dress that I have paired with a chunky knit and some chelsea boots and will be perfect for the coming Autumn months!
Look 3 would be perfect for a day date or shopping with friends, with the dress having faux leather detail it could also be worn on a night out with your favourite killer heels!
almost always wear dresses during the day more than trousers so I love to see lovely new dresses in the shops and New Look has an abundance of them! Someone confiscate my credit card!!! :o)

Carb Free Winter Comforts 1..

I don't know about you but now that the weather has turned truly pants and it's back to school time of year, I start craving winter foods. This can be a bit tricky when you don't eat carbs like pasta, rice, bread or potatoes.. so I have been doing some research into alternatives!

When I have posted pictures on Twitter I got alot of tweets asking for recipes so I thought I would take to my trusty blog to share them with you.

I am currently working on setting some new fitness goals with my PT Chris in the run up to Christmas, so it's going to be a focus for me to eat clean, dedicate myself to achieving my objectives and also talk about my journey along the way.

So today's recipe I kind of threw together, I didn't follow from a book or anything so you can amend it as you wish!

Carb Free Spaghetti Bolognaise

Shopping List
Coconut Oil
Lean Mince
Chopped Onion
Passata with Basil
Italian Herb Mix


  1. Warm up the coconut oil in a pan, add in the onions and vegetables, and brown off the beef mince.
  2. Add in the seasoning.
  3. Mix in the passata and leave to cook for approximately 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  4. Using a potato peeler, peel the courgettes so that you get ribbons of courgette. You will need to use the harder outside of the courgette not the softer centre. When you have enough ribbons, place them in a pan of boiling water for 3 minutes to soften. Drain away excess water and serve immediately with the bolognaise.
When mixed in with a sauce you really can't tell that it is courgette you are eating and not pasta, so the possibilities are endless for other things you could make with it! You could add in chicken, green beans, sun dried tomatoes and pesto, sausage, tomato and chilli.. anything!

I personally find scent shopping a bit confusing so when I heard about a new store in the Trafford Centre specialising in helping customers pick the perfect fragrance I thought it was a fantastic idea!

@Bourjois_UK Blush Exclusif Review

I was recently sent a lovely little package from Bourjois to sample their newest additions to the product range, in celebration of their 150th anniversary.

I had seen the 'bespoke blush' in store so was excited to give it a try..

The formula is a cream to powder consistency and is best applied (in my humble opinion) with a stippling brush. I had originally feared that the 'self adjusting' aspect would be a bit of a gimmick, but it definitely does turn varying shades of pink on different people. When you pop your finger in the pot you can see it turns a very different shade once applied to the skin, and on me it turned a really nice pastel pink.

Apologies I haven't got a picture of it on my face but I had had a breakout when I took the pics and felt a little self conscious about posting! I will try and take another and post it on my instagram :)

I really like this product which shocked me as I am not normally a cream blush wearer - I would really recommend it as being something a bit different for your makeup collections, which, if anything like mine will of course need something new adding!

HOOP UK / Jessie Pavelka / Elite Performance Fitness Event

Last night I attended and helped out with a fantastic event at the gym I train at which was in aid of HOOP UK (Helping Overcome Obesity Problems). Their Patron, Jessie Pavelka (as seen on Fat: The Fight of my Life) was in attendance, meeting guests and partaking in a Q&A session.

I don't think in the run up to the event I fully anticipated quite how inspiring the night would be, hearing real stories and successes from the guests. Jessie answered questions from the audience that ranged from motivation tips to keep on track, how to encourage children to become more active and diet advice!

We also heard from Jeni and Sarah who have recently appeared on Jessie's show and Natalie Carr who explained to us how support from a Charity such as Hoop UK could have helped her out.

There were also many brands and local businesses in attendance promoting their products and services which was great to see! We had Freya Lingerie on hand to talk through how important having correctly fitted sports underwear is, Whey Hey Protein Ice Cream was available for the guests, Cheshire Reiki were exhibiting and talking through Reiki treatments, along with City Spa Escapes and the team from Elite Performance Fitness.

I started training with Chris at Elite back in mid March and have lost 16% body fat in that time along with 16 inches off my total body measurements (I think I have calculated that correctly!) and it was really great to witness everyone see what a fantastic job the guys do at the gym!

I really enjoyed the event and will definitely take away some inspiration to help me continue with my weightloss.

Review: @Boujois_UK Java Rice Powder

This weekend I have tried something that I have got rather excited about! My daily makeup routine ALWAYS contains a form of setting powder over a foundation and as I was nearing the end of my BareMinerals Mineral Veil I wanted to try something new.

The Bourjois Poudre de Riz de Java is one of the new offerings celebrating the brand's 150th Anniversary. An original product from their initial line up back in 1914, the Java Rice Powder was a best seller back then and looks to do similarly well now. Reformulated using today's cosmetics processes, Java Rice Powder is super fine, translucent and leaves a lovely radiant finish on the skin.

I found this a couple days ahead of launch in Superdrug at the Trafford Centre and I think I will buy a couple more just incase I ever struggle to find it! At £9.99 I think it is a really great product that definitely lives up to the hype! Thumbs up from meeee!
