Better Safe Than Sorry

Hands up who is completely clueless when it comes to their car? Thought so..

Today I thought I’d talk about the important topic of car safety and in particular, tyres!!

Now, I am sure you all got the whole driving test, show me/tell me and theory test highway code trivia nailed, but in actual fact have you ever been able to judge what low tread actually looks like and feels like? If you can, then brilliant. This post isn’t about shaming anyone, it’s more of a thought provoker of how dangerous it can be when you unwittingly drive around with ‘end of life’, bald, or damaged tyres.

I’m guilty of this too I must add!!

Tyre safety contributes to over 1200 road accidents and being caught driving with defective tyres can result in a hefty £2500 fine along with 3 points on the license. And that is before we consider the potential danger you put yourself and others in.

I drive a rather nippy little Mini and after a lifetime of #tyreprobs with my old cars, I do try and pay more attention to it now!

Most car garages will check over your tyres for free. Places like Kwik Fit, Tyre-Shopper.co.uk, National.co.uk and Point S are great for this service. If they are low on pressure they will often also top you up and advise if you have an tracking problems. Perfect tracking is where your car will drive straight and you won’t have to hold the wheel to do this, imperfect tracking is where you might have dented the inner rim of your wheel, which is easily done with all the pot holes around these days and the result is that your car will pull to one side and you will find you need to manually direct your car back to straight driving. The effects of this are that your tyres will wear down unevenly and can cause other problems elsewhere in your car.

I can highly recommend Point-S tyre dealers in Manchester as they sorted my tyres for me. They have loads of brands in stock, good prices and you can prebook your tyres and fitting online at a time that is convenient for you. Bonus!

So, before it gets icy and driving conditions become even more dangerous, maybe add a tyre once over to your to do list?

SLEEP WELL SHOP WELL

I kicked off my weekend in style last Friday when I was fortunate to be invited to spend an evening with some of my fave Northern Bloggers, Propellernet and the Front Row Society!

Our task for the weekend was to experience a sleep well shop well night in Manchester, so we checked into our rooms at the Premier Inn Piccadilly on Dale Street, and got ready for a wonderful evening.

In terms of Hotels in Manchester, I was very impressed with the Hotel we stayed at which had a fantastically central location. There's something so luxurious about having a hotel room all to yourself and when I stepped through the doors, I set about getting some music on, hopping in the shower and getting glam, ready for a meal with my Bloggy Pals and our hosts Megan (Pages by Megan), Megan and Hannah (Propellernet) !

We were whisked off to San Carlo Fumo where we discussed all things blogging related and Megan's Secret Shopping Guide for Manchester. The food was plentiful to say the least, and after filling my boots I was giddy to get back to the hotel and jump into my super comfy bed for the night!

The next morning we all reconvened for breakfast (I do not know how or why I was hungry at this point) to fuel up ready for a day of shopping. We were kindly given some spends and map of Megan's shopping spots and then I went on a whistle-stop tour of Manchester.

What was really ace about this mini trip was that it was a completely new way of experiencing my home town and Manchester is such a wonderfully photogenic city that I have never got round to snapping! The Northern Quarter is jam packed full of photo ops and then I went to my fave shopping haunt of the Arndale to do some shopping. I am trying to re-motivate myself at the gym so I opted to buy these AMAZING purple trainers and I love them so much!!!

It was such a lovely experience to be invited along to this event and I had a fabulous time. I can highly recommend Premier Inn and San Carlo Fumo and I urge you to think about going on a #SleepWellShopWell Trip as it was such a treat :)

SweetieSal Slims: Cryotherapy

CRYOTHERAPY MANCHESTER
I literally couldn't wait to tell you all about the treatment I had this weekend at Nicky Clarke in Manchester Spinningfields!!!

If I am brutally honest, I probably wasn't really looking forward to this as it contained two of my pet hates. Extreme temperatures and someone touching my stomach. But let me tell you, I am literally blown away with this treatment. It is AMAZING!!!!!

Now, to put a little bit of context in, Cryotherapy originates from Japan, and this pioneering technology uses the liquid nitrogen-based freezing technology on a concentrated area to trigger a physiological reaction to cold temperatures.

With multiple benefits, including instant inch loss, cellulite reduction, skin tightening, acne reduction and pain relief, Cryotherapy avoids the full body shock of the Cryosaunas by treating isolated body parts; resulting in a relaxing, energising and refreshing experience.

Here is what Cryotherapy UK says about their treatment;
Cryotherapy reaches –160 degrees via a liquid nitrogen tank. The nitrogen is filtered and pushed out through a funnel in the form of an ice-cold vapour that is held by our professionally trained therapists, who gently massage the treated area to keep skin warm during the treatment.

When the sub-zero temperature covers the skin, the sudden drop in heat stimulates the temperature receptors, prompting the brain to transmit messages throughout the body. Your Capillaries (blood vessels) then undergo severe vasoconstriction to protect the essentials organs and the core temperature from dropping.

While the skin continues to feel the ‘freeze’ the body is sending signals back and forth to the brain, these messengers tell the brain if there is damage to the tissues or bone, or if there is excessive fat cells or cellulite or lack of elasticity, collagen or skin damage. If there are excessive fat cells and cellulite, the fat cells will collapse at a warmer temperature than healthy cells, which reduces the density of fat giving the desired loss in body density and dress sizes.

Further physiological and biological reactions to the drop in temperature are the fight or flight response, which increases the metabolic rate and endorphins. The metabolic rate speeds up and burns between 500-600 calories over the next 24 hours and the increase of endorphins gives a natural emotional high and increase in energy.

Once the skin is able to warm up again vasodilation takes place, where the vessels open up and become wider again. This is similar to floodgates opening, the lymphatic system floods through delivering all the healing proteins, collagen, anti-oxidants – all that the body needs to repair the area, while simultaneously removing all the toxins and inflammation that may have been causing any pain or skin irritations. It’s like your body is able to hit a ‘reset’ button!

I read all this and was like wow will this be as good as it sounds??

And my answer is 100% yes.

I chose to have my Cryotherapy on my stomach as quite frankly I hate it. It's where my body stores ALL THE CHUB, and I had high hopes about what this treatment could do for me.

I sat with my therapist and ran through some pre-treatment questions, we then measured my tummy and I got settled on the bed ready to be frozen. I had asked the therapist if it was painful or uncomfortable and she assured me it wasn't. She likened the treatment to a cold breeze and I have to say this description is bang on.

I thought to myself if it works then I can deal with a bit of pain (can't be any worse than a bikini wax) but I genuinely felt nothing that could be described as pain in the slightest. Your skin is initially cooled down so it's not too much of a shock and then it is cooled right down and the vapours blown over the treatment area. It doesn't feel half as cold as you know it is. The skin is regularly massaged and then the treatment is finished off with a sculpting massage to promote lymphatic drainage.

I really did enjoy the treatment very much. You do feel energised and great afterwards and I am DELIGHTED that I lost 1 inch off my high stomach, 2 inches off my waist and 1.5 inches off my hips.

I can't wait to get back in there to be honest and in the run up to my 2 Christmas Parties I am looking to shift a few pounds and feel my best in my party attire. #ADressToImpress was 2 years ago and seeing all my facebook memories of the run up to it and how much work I put in has inspired me to crack on this year too.

I have 5 more treatments to enjoy so stay tuned for how I get on :)

If you want a piece of the action then get in touch with Cryotherapy UK either by phone: 0330 111 4077 or on email: ask@cryotherapyuk.co.uk

Bedroom Bliss - Curtains

JD WILLIAMS
YORKSHIRE LINEN
I really don’t need an excuse to publicly declare my love for my bedroom, but with winter fast approaching, let’s talk about how to set the perfect sleep scene.

Let’s start with lighting. For me, before you artificially light a room, you should start with working with the natural light. Light can be an important factor in getting a good night’s sleep, so you need to maximise what you and also get yourself a good set of curtains up at the window so you give yourself the best possible chance of catching a few Zs!

Curtains are important because if you are sensitive to changes in light, it could be disturbing your sleep. I absolutely adore a nicely dark room, particularly in hotels with black out curtains and a super comfy bed! The good news is you can easily achieve this at home by investing in the right curtains. Many retailers are now producing ready made curtains so all you need to worry about it measuring up and getting them hung! Yorkshire Linen's ready made curtains are a good pick.

Likewise, bedding can also have a massive impact on your sleep. Being too warm or too cold can interrupt your sleep and make you an absolute delight(!) the next morning!

I’ve found I have to have cotton bedlinen after a rather nasty skin reaction to a set which had a shimmery overlay on the pillow. This left me with a scaly patch on my lower eye lid which was highly unpleasant! So for now and evermore it’s cotton sheets for me and I snuggle down each night with glee.

Once you have nailed the soft furnishings, it’s over to the accessories to create your safe haven! The themes and choices out there are endless. I personally prefer to keep things quite plain and neutral so I can change up the look of my room with the addition of a few key pieces, but the choice is yours!

What’s your current boudoir theme??

The Bloggers Made Me Do It

I love seeing all the amazing creative content that Bloggers produce every day. It is inspirational and often makes me *immediately* lust after the product in question or make me behave in exactly the same way... anyone else guilty of this???

Here are a few of my 'jumping on the blogger bandwagon' moments;

  1. Frequent use of emojis and desire to own anything with emojis on it.
  2. London Fashion Week - I just had to go!!!
  3. That cute brunch set up with your best pal? DON'T MOVE A THING. It ain't gonna instagram itself!
  4. Revlon Colour Balms.
  5. Acrylic Makeup Storage.
  6. Liz Earle Hot Polish Cleanser.
  7. #WRISTCANDY.
  8. All the gear and no idea. I have ALL the priming and contouring tools under the sun. Do I use them? Nope. CBA.
  9. Marble. I haven't succumbed to this one yet but it's only a matter of time with the imminent arrival of H&M Home at the Trafford Centre!
  10. Lace Up Flats. Everyone, literally EVERYONE, has a pair. Me included. Obvs.
  11. A hefty iPhone Photos Album with an inexplicable mix of visually pleasing memes, quotes, scenes and products. Oh and a borderline unhealthy amount of selfies.
  12. A desk littered with mini cacti and/or succulents.
  13. Being physically incapable of walking past flowers without taking a few pics.
  14. Feeling cheated and a failure when you discover you *really* don't like avocado on toast.
  15. Fairylights, everywhere.
  16. Owning at least one of the Naked Palettes.
  17. Being a total Charlotte Tilbury fan girl.
  18. Buying an on the go iPhone charger because it is just unacceptable to be without battery.
